Komodo Island: the ranger-guided walk
Updated 20 October 2026
Maheswari reaches Komodo Island on day 2 of the 3D2N, the 4D3N and the 2D1N, and as the last stop of the full day. You walk with a park ranger on a trail of 45 to 120 minutes. Dragon sightings are never guaranteed. The park ticket costs IDR 250,000 for a foreign visitor.
Where the Komodo walk falls on each length
On the 3D2N and the 2D1N, the Komodo trek follows the Pink Beach snorkel on day 2, and lunch comes after it. On the 4D3N it falls on day 2 between Taka Makassar and dinner.
The full day saves it for last. After the Padar trek, lunch, the Pink Beach snorkel and free time with a snack, the Komodo trek ends the day, and the boat returns to Labuan Bajo the same day.
Stop order is the captain's on the day, and weather can reshuffle it. Check which day of your route carries the walk before you book flights, because it is a stop worth planning around.

What it is not: not a zoo: the dragons are wild and sightings are likely but never guaranteed · no trekking without a park ranger
With a ranger, on foot
The walk starts at the Loh Liang ranger station. Short, medium and long trails exist, and most day itineraries take the shorter ones. A trek lasts between 45 and 120 minutes, depending on the trail the ranger chooses.
The dragons are wild, and the island is their home rather than a park enclosure. There is no trekking without a park ranger, so the ranger sets the pace, the trail and the distance you keep.
Because the ranger decides the trail, the length of the walk is set on the day. Plan the day around the walk and not the other way round.

What to wear and carry
Wear closed shoes. For the Komodo walk, trekking shoes are the right answer rather than sandals. Add long sleeves or sunblock, a hat and sunglasses, because there is little cover from the sun on the trails.
Carry water in a backpack; mineral water is included in the fare. With the ages in hand, we say what the ranger's trails allow. If you wear glasses, a strap keeps them on when you lean to look.
The ticket, the ranger and the park package
Komodo lies inside the national park. The entry ticket is IDR 250,000 per person per day for a foreign visitor, IDR 50,000 on weekdays for an Indonesian visitor and IDR 75,000 at weekends, bought online in the visitor's name.
Ranger and local levies are bundled with the government entrance ticket (IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, PP 36/2024) in one KEXI park package per guest, paid on top of the boat price unless your quote says it is included. Ranger and local levies belong to the same park package.
Neither is in the fare. A daily visitor cap applies at Komodo in time sessions, and we check it when we register your party. We send the figures for your dates with your booking.
FAQ
Will I see a Komodo dragon?
The dragons are wild, and the ranger leads the trail, keeps the distance and decides when to stop.
How long is the Komodo walk?
Between 45 and 120 minutes, depending on the trail. The ranger chooses short, medium or long, and most day itineraries take the shorter trails. Tell us if anyone in your party needs the shorter walk.
Can children walk with the rangers?
Yes. The trails are easy in grade, and short and medium trails exist. Send the ages, and we confirm what the ranger allows for your party.
Do I need closed shoes?
Yes. Wear closed shoes, ideally the trekking shoes from the bring list, with long sleeves or sunblock. There is little cover from the sun on the trails. Open sandals stay on the boat.
Is the ranger fee in the ticket?
No. Ranger fees and local levies sit in the park package, not on a bill of their own. Neither is in the fare. There is no separate ranger or levy bill: the park package covers both.
